Den välkända assyriska författarinnan Seham Youssef Hawsho har beslutat att mycket generöst skänka alla intäkter från sin senaste bok – ’The Twins – My Mother and Syria’ – till Assyrier Utan Gränsers humanitära hjälparbete.
Boken är en fascinerande och medryckande familjehistoria vars huvudperson är Sihams mor, familjens matriark – en stark och banbrytande kvinna vars livsöde berättas parallellt med Syriens historia. Well-known Assyrian writer Seham Youssef Hawsho has generously decided to donate all proceeds from her latest book – ’The Twins – My Mother and Syria’ – to the humanitarian work of Assyrians Without Borders.
The book is a riveting family memoir centered on the character of Seham´s mother, the family matriarch – a strong and pioneering woman whose life story is told in parallel with that of Syria. The intertwined stories of individual and nation indeed form the unbreakable bond which is reflected in the author´s choice of a title – ’the Twins’.
Primarily, this is the tale of a family, a people, a way of life that is no more. Abounding in stories, anecdotes – indeed love and nostalgia for bygone days – this book will remain a fascinating and lasting testimony to the life of the Assyrian nation in Syria in the 20th Century – the riches and beauty of its traditions, its endurance and vitality. At the same time we get to follow Seham´s struggle to aid her ailing mother in war-torn Syria – a touching and gripping tale of a daughter´s boundless love and longing and her travels in in a nation marked by the suffering and chaos of war.
