Den 24 april 1915 inleddes folkmordet på minoriteterna i Ottomanska riket – medan världen teg.
Hundratusentals assyrier (även kallade syrianer och kaldéer) mördades under ”Seyfo”, som är assyriernas benämning på folkmordet. Assyrier, tillsammans med armenier och pontinska greker, mördades på grund av sin etnicitet och religion.
Idag är de assyriska ättlingarna till folkmordets överlevare åter på flykt. Fördrivning av ett helt folk sker idag inför våra ögon – civila mördas, kvinnor och barn tillfångatas och utnyttjas. För hundra år sedan teg världen – idag har vi möjligheten att göra våra röster hörda och agera.
Assyrier Utan Gränser har under början av året arbetat intensivt med den akuta nödhjälpen till de assyriska flyktingarna i Khabour, Syrien. Ättlingar efter folkmord har nu själva tvingats fly för sina liv och från sina hem. En del är tillfångatagna och deras öde är fortfarande ovisst. Många har kunnat få våra hjälpinsatser via era gåvor. Genom att stödja ättlingarna visar vi att det som hände år 1915 inte ska tillåtas igen.
Visa stöd och engagemang för dessa assyriska ättlingar och deras förfäder genom att agera! Från den 24 april kommer det att finnas en rad aktiviteter runtom i världen för att uppmärksamma det som skedde för hundra år sedan – visa stöd genom att aktivt närvara vid demonstrationer och utställningar eller genom att dela med er information om det som har hänt för hundra år sedan och det som sker idag.
Världen har en gång i tiden tigit och blundat. Det var en gång för mycket. Men världen ska inte göra samma misstag idag – 100 år senare.

Genocide – Then and Now
On the 24th of April 1915, the genocide of minorities in the Ottoman Empire was launched – while the world stood silent.
Hundreds of thousands of Assyrians (also called Syriacs and Chaldeans) were killed during “Seyfo”, which is what Assyrians call the genocide. They, togehther with Armenians and Pontic Greeks, were killed because of their ethnicity and religion.
Today the descendants of the survivors of the genocide are on the run again. A whole people is driven out, under our very own eyes – civilians are murdered, women and children captured, molested and abused. A hundred years ago the world kept silent; today we have the possibility to make our voices heard and to act.
Early this year, Assyrians Without Borders worked intensively with the acute humanitarian aid to the Assyrian refugees in Khabour, Syria. Now the descendants of the genocide have been themselves forced to flee their homes and run for their lives. Some of them were captured and their fate is still unknown. Many were able to get our help thanks to your donations. By helping these descendants, we show that what happened in 1915 will not be allowed to happen again.

The world closed its mouth, ears and eyes once. That was one time too many. The world should not make the same mistake again – one hundred years later.
